New Tech Tuesdays: Amphenol IP67 Connectors and Cable Assemblies Can Lead to Lower Automation Costs Tommy Cummings

New Tech Tuesdays

Join journalist Tommy Cummings for a weekly look at all things interesting, new, and noteworthy for design engineers.

Industry 4.0 and industrial Ethernet are evolving, progressing, and creating a new class of systems, connected equipment, and devices.

To keep up with these advancements and ensure effective communication, designers and electronic engineers must find newer, more efficient solutions for outdated communications methods.

Amphenol Communications Solutions can help. Its line of Commercial Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) IP67 Connectors and Cable Assemblies are designed to simplify and standardize industrial network systems, which can lead to lower costs.

These assemblies also support Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) or Power-over-Data Line (PoDL), which allows the same connection that carries the data signals to power remote devices.

In this week's New Tech Tuesday, we'll look at Amphenol SPE IP67 Connectors and Cable Assemblies and their value to smart factories when it comes to machine-to-machine communications, robotics, and automation.

What Can They Do?

Amphenol Communications Solutions’ SPE waterproof (IP67) connectors and cable assemblies are designed to eliminate slow and complex fieldbus protocols. These connectors and cable assemblies feature fully compatible International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 63171-6 interconnects, two-way 600MHz data transmission, 4A current rating, and Insulation Displacement (IDC) termination plugs.

SPE's wide range of data speed and range options allow it to fit almost all modern industrial applications. Amphenol's connectors and cable assemblies are ideal for traffic control monitoring systems, data, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), test equipment, robotics, healthcare, medical equipment, actuators, and network nodes.

How Size Matters

SPE cable is lighter, smaller, and has a smaller bend radius, which means more sensors and cabling can be contained in a smaller space.

This makes SPE ideal for commercial aerospace and uses in passenger planes. Reducing cabling weight can also produce fuel savings in a large fleet.

In smart factories, SPE is designed to eventually replace the larger number of fieldbuses that connect directly to the sensors, actuators, and other devices that eventually will interface with a larger Ethernet network.

By having a more total Ethernet solution with TCP/IP protocols, factories and other industrial facilities are deploying sensor-to-cloud coverage in a simple format, rather than relying on gateways.

Reduced system complexity, improved reliability, and lower costs are all benefits of PoDL.

Tuesday's Takeaway

New systems require new solutions. Amphenol Communications Solutions' Commercial Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) IP67 Connectors and Cable Assemblies give designers and engineers the ability to simplify and standardize industrial network systems in smart factories.
